We’re up to something on Vancouver Island.
In June, it was announced that Aragon purchased the historic English Inn in Esquimalt. On 4.3 acres of land, the beautiful hotel was originally built as a private home in 1906, not becoming a hotel until 1947. The manor became known for its striking Tudor revival style, designed by renowned architect Samuel McClure and constructed by artisans transported from England – no simple task in those times.
While we will ensure the original English Inn and gardens retain their charm, we envision a residential master-planned community comprised of a number of different housing forms on the adjacent lands.
To ensure the community is well-informed on our future plans for the inn and development, we held a public information meeting earlier this month. It is important to us to allow neighbours the opportunity to share comments and ask questions about the vision.
If you were unable to attend the session, a summary of our intention is below:
Goals for the English Inn and surrounding land
- Establish a high quality and inspired new housing vision of permanence and longevity
- Continue the hotel and land’s legacy as an asset to Esquimalt
- Preserve and maintain the majority of mature trees
- Acknowledge and respect neighbours and the community
- Preserve and enhance the existing wedding gardens
In addition, over the next couple of years, upgrades will be applied to the current hotel, including rooms, spa and gym amenities, restaurant, and wedding and banquet room.
Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting. We very much look forward to being part of your community.
