MOVEFORWARD With The Q To Q Ferry

For years in Vancouver, water taxis have provided vital connections across False Creek. Acknowledging the same potential on the Fraser River, New Westminster is testing a ferry service linking Queensborough with Quayside – aptly named the Q to Q Ferry.

Factoring in Aragon’s approximately 1,200 new homes at Port Royal in Queensborough, the area is the fastest growing and densest residential community in New Westminster. While residents here already benefit from public greenspace and river pathways, their lifestyles will soon expand with direct and quick access to the culture, dining, shops, and transit the downtown area offers.

We are thrilled to sponsor this 5-minute passage between Port Royal and downtown New Westminster, running from May 19 to October 28, 2018.

“When Queensborough was an industrial area, connections were primarily for the movement of goods, and now that it is a thriving residential community, connections are important for the movement of people,” said Aragon President Lenny Moy. “We are excited to support the city in adding a commuter ferry, which will contribute towards a greener city as residents are able to access convenient public transportation.”

The Q to Q will operate 7 days a week between Port Royal and The Quay hotel:

  • Monday to Thursday – 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Friday – 7:00 am to 9:00 pm
  • Weekends and statutory holidays – 9:00 am to 9:00 pm

During peak weekday travel times (7am – 9am and 4pm – 6pm), the ferries will run every 15 minutes. All other times, they will run every 30 minutes. Single tickets are $2 for full fare, $1 for concession, and children under the age of six ride free. Monthly passes are $40 and $20 for full fare and concession, respectively. The ferries can accommodate 12 passengers, along with wheelchairs and bicycles.

We encourage you to provide the City with your feedback, if you’d like to see the program continue beyond this 5-month pilot program. With enough support, we hope the ferry will become a permanent feature on the Fraser River. Comments may be made HERE.

Fresh market food, SkyTrain connections, waterfront dining, and contemporary art galleries will soon be only moments away from home, when you live at Port Royal.
